Papers of the Warren family of Boston, Mass. include typescript copies of letters written by attorney Samuel Dennis Warren to his law partner and friend Supreme Court Judge Louis D. Brandeis, 1879-1907, pertaining to their practice, court cases, family, and careers after their firm dissolved in 1888; typescript copies of letters written by Louis D. Brandeis to Samuel Dennis Warren's son Henry, pertaining to Samuel and his letters, 1935; and a printed booklet about the life of Samuel Dennis Warren, put together by his daughter Mabel Warren Bradley, 1956. Collection also includes a daily diary kept by Warren family ancestor Ann M. Wadleigh in Mass., 1862 (with gaps). The location of original letters is unknown.

Louis Brandeis (b. November 13, 1856, Louisville, Kentucky – d. October 5, 1941, Washington D.C.) was an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States, serving from 1916 until 1939. Brandeis was the Court’s 67th justice and its first Jewish-American justice. He was the son of immigrants from Bohemia, who came to Kentucky from Prague, then part of the Austrian Empire.
